Milioni di persone stanno manifestando, non solo in Iran, per la morte del generale iraniano Qassem Soleimani,ucciso il 3 gennaio 2020 in Iraq dalle forze statunitensi tramite un drone armato. Come ha riconosciuto Leonardo Tricarico, già capo di stato maggiore dell’Aeronautica, «l’azione ordinata da Trump è un’ulteriore dissennata destabilizzazione dagli esiti incerti, senza apparente logica».

Il ministro degli Esteri Luigi Di Maio ha assicurato che il drone statunitense non è partito da una base militare collocata in Italia e ha affermato, su Facebook, che «le vicende che riguardano l’Iran e la Libia ci riportano a ricordi di un passato di guerra, un passato non lontano, che ci parla di distruzione, di morti, di paura. E che rinnova una paura che nessuno di noi vorrebbe vivere. In entrambi gli scenari, pur con tutte le relative differenze e specificità, il faro che ci guida è sempre e solo un’unica, semplice verità: la guerra genera altra guerra, la violenza chiama altra violenza, la morte altra morte».

Sempre Di Maio ha affermato che «ora è il momento di scommettere sul dialogo, sulla diplomazia e sulle soluzioni politiche. Il dialogo crea, il dialogo è per chi sa costruire e, come forza di governo, questa è la risposta che scegliamo per l’Italia». La sospensione è grande per il mondo intero e per il nostro Paese, esposto, in particolare, con le missioni militari all’estero. L’Italia si trova a compiere scelte decisive per declinare concretamente tali prese di posizione.
