Sono iniziati il 26 luglio e si concluderanno l’11 agosto, a Lima, in Perù, i Giochi panamericani giunti alla 28a edizione. Rispetto alla precedente edizione, sono stati aggiunti tre sport: la pelota basca, il surf e il bodybuilding (annunciato nel novembre 2016). Successivamente  il Comitato Olimpico Internazionale (CIO) ha annunciato l’aggiunta dello skateboarding e dell’arrampicata sportiva come sport per i Giochi della XXXII Olimpiade e lo skateboarding è stato aggiunto nella lista delle discipline.
